Tranmere Rovers face Preston North End in League One
6:40am Saturday 2nd November 2013 in News
TRANMERE Rovers are in League One action against Preston North End at Deepdale on Saturday.
The match will be the clubs' 23rd league meeting and manager Ronnie Moore hopes to have Tom Hateley and Danny Holmes available.
Holmes came off with a knee injury against MK Dons last weekend while Hateley had to be substituted because of a tight hamstring. However the pair returned to training yesterday and could be included in the squad.
Ian Goodison serves the final match of his three game suspension while Andy Robinson and James Wallace are unavailable due to injury.
Rovers have six wins to Preston's eight, the last of which came in 2011-12 when Enoch Showunmi and Andy Robinson helped Ronnie Moore's side come from behind to win 2-1 at Prenton Park.
Rovers go into the game in 21st place in League One with 12 points from 14 games. A win could lift the side as high as 15th.
The first ever meeting between the two clubs was on Boxing Fay 1970, a game which finished 3-3 at Prenton Park and saw Malcolm Moore, Ken Beamish and Paul Crossley on the scoresheet.
Last season's match at Deepdale finished 1-0 to the Lilywhites, thanks to Jeffrey Monakana, after the clubs drew 1-1 at Prenton Park earlier in the season.
Players to have represented both clubs include Iain Hume, Mike Jackson, Lloyd Iceton, Barrie Mitchell, Frank Worthington, Shaun Garnett, Gary Bennett, Iain Anderson, Mark Rankine, David Kelly, Danny Mayor and Gavin Ward.
