A POLICE community support officer was injured after being knocked off his bike in a hit and run incident.

Cleveland Police are now appealing for information after the PCSO was involved in the collision on a Hartlepool roundabout on Friday, October 25 at 9.10pm.

The officer was riding a pedal bike on patrol with a fellow PCSO when he collided with the car at the roundabout where Winterbottom Avenue and Easington Road meet.

He received minor head injuries and cuts to his arms and was taken to hospital for treatment before being released.

Police want to trace the driver of the car, who failed to stop at the scene and instead continued at speed down Powlett Road. It is not believed at this stage that the PCSO was purposely targeted.

The car is thought to be about the size of a Citreon C2 or small Micra-type vehicle, possibly light blue, and have a new-style number plate starting with an N. It is not known whether the car was damaged.

Officers are keen to speak to a member of the public who was walking past with an umbrella at the time and shouted towards the injured PCSO.

Sgt Mark Haworth said: "We have a number of lines of enquiry including viewing CCTV in the local area.

“I would appeal for the driver to come forward of their own accord before they find police officers at their door."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt Mark Haworth on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
