Bidston Village shortlisted for North West in Bloom award
4:50pm Wednesday 23rd October 2013 in News
BIDSTON Village has been shortlisted for the 'Best Small Village' title at the North West in Bloom awards.
The award aims to encourage North West local communities to improve and care for their local environment through imaginative planting of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping, conservation and recycling projects, and to sweep away eyesores that blight our streets such as litter, graffiti and vandalism.
Bidston Village has won the silver award in their category for the past three years, and this year, hopes to make it a gold.
It will find out whether it has won during tomorrow's award ceremony at Southport Theatre.
Councillor Brian Kenny, Wirral’s cabinet member for environment, said: "This is excellent news and congratulations go to everyone who has contributed to getting this far.
"This nomination is down to the commitment and enthusiasm of Bidston residents and the Ballantyne Community Centre.
"I am delighted that their efforts have been recognised in this way and wish them the very best of luck for the awards ceremony tomorrow."
When considering the entries, judges looked at Horticultural excellence, community involvement, environmental friendliness and sustainability.
Judges say by taking part in the competition communities benefit from an increase in civic pride, long-term improvement in their local environment and help boost the local economy.
