New community resource centre to open in Rock Ferry
11:21am Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
A new community resource in Rock Ferry will be opened on Friday bringing together a range of public services under one roof.
Extensive work has been undertaken to create Rock Ferry Library and One Stop Shop, which will now offer library services and events, as well as advice and information on subjects including benefits, council tax and Blue Badge registration.
The facility includes technology which enables customers to issue and return their own library books and provides free wi-fi and a new computer suite with staff on hand to help residents with their digital skills.
Family activities like "Baby Bounce and Rhyme" and the library’s regular coffee mornings will take place in the friendly surroundings of the newly designed space, alongside adult reading groups and computer courses.
The newly-refurbished hall space will host NHS Wirral’s range of free courses in relaxation, weight management and keep fit, while Connexions and National Career’s Service will be on hand to offer careers advice to young people and adults at regular sessions.
A ceremony will be held at 12.30pm at which the Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Dave Mitchell, will officially open the new resource.
Also in attendance will be Cllr Chris Meaden, cabinet member for health and wellbeing.
Councillor Meaden said: “I am pleased and proud to be able to welcome this fantastic new resource, which sits right at the heart of Rock Ferry.
"Our long- term strategy to bring together more services in one, convenient location has taken a huge amount of preparation and effort by staff, and I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank everyone who has given their time and commitment to ensuring that local people have the best services available.”
The improved service at Rock Ferry follows similar successful schemes in Heswall, Eastham and Moreton.
