Wirral murder accused appears at Crown Court
A ROCK Ferry man accused of murder following a stabbing incident appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today.
Dennis O'Neill is alleged to have murdered 38-year-old James Byrne, who was found with serious stab wounds in Old Chester Road on September 22 near the Fairfield Hotel. He died in hospital the following morning.
Also before the Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Clement Goldstone, QC, was Steven Johnson, who is charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice allegedly involving "mopping up blood at the scene of an offence, approaching a potential eye witness and harbouring an offender."
Both O'Neill, 47, of Old Chester Road, and Johnson, 45, also of Old Chester Road, Birkenhead, were further remanded in custody until December 23 when they are expected to enter their pleas.
A date for their trial, expected to last 7 - 10 days, was fixed to begin on March 19.
