Great response to Wirral hospice Light Up A Life campaign so far, say organisers
THIS year's Light Up A Life campaign for Wirral Hospice St John's has had a great response from Globe readers so far, say its organisers.
The appeal, now in its 19th year, raises much-needed funds for the Clatterbridge-based hospice, which is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary.
It was launched in the Globe two weeks ago and so far more than 50 people have sent in sponsorship coupons, featured in the paper, to the Clatterbridge-based hospice.
The appeal culminates in a light switch-on ceremony at the venue on Sunday, December 1 at 5.30pm.
Hayley Gough, hospice events manager, said: "There's been a great response to the appeal so far, this is even before a mail-out to people who have sponsored the event in recent years.
"I hope this support gets stronger as the weeks go by and want to thank the Globe for its brilliant support once again."
More than two thousand people watched last year’s switch-on, which raised £90,000 for hospice running costs.
Switching on the 6,000 lights this time will be brothers Tomas, aged six, and 11-year-old Louie Stiles, in memory of their dad Rich, who died at the hospice last September.
The lights are sponsored in the names of lost loved ones and will remain lit until twelfth night in January.
There will also be a special carol service at St James Church in New Brighton on Wednesday, December 4.
Tickets for this will be available in November. This year, the names of all those remembered will feature in a special keepsake order of service that will be available on the night of the December 1 switch-on.
The names of those honoured will feature in special books that will be on view from 5-7pm daily until Friday, December 6.
To light up a light for a loved one simply fill out the coupon in next Wednesday's edition of the Globe.
You can also support the fundraising campaign by purchasing special pinbadges from the hospice.
