Thousands visit Birkenhead transport festival
5:00pm Monday 16th September 2013 in News
THOUSANDS of motor enthusiasts turned out for Birkenhead’s Festival of Transport at the weekend.
More than 20,000 flocked to Birkenhead Park for the sixth annual event.
Among the attractions were military vehicles, a steam-powered boat on the lake, vintage fairground rides and classic cars.
Speaking prior to the Stephen McGreal, who helps to organise the two-day festival with the Birkenhead Lions, said it was achievement to stage this year’s event after sponsorship dried up.
He said: "The simple fact that we are able to put on the event in the first place is great news as most of our sponsorship dried up but it just shows the determination of the organisers to make sure it goes ahead."
The festival, which brought in a record crowd last year, also featured the Blaenau Ffestiniog mountain railway and Sentinel steam ‘wagon’ Maggie May which was built in 1924, as well as a flight simulator.#
