A 72-year-old man died following a car crash in Wirral this morning
Officers were called to the roundabout between Arrowe Park Road and Barnston Road at 7.30am following reports from a motorist that a car had left the road and driven into the boundary wall of Arrowe Park.
On arrival, they found paramedics treating the male driver of a maroon-coloured Kia Sorento.
The 72-year-old from Heswall was pronounced dead a short time later. A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish how he died.
The authorities have not released the victim's name. The driver's next of kin have been informed his death.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash and investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or the Kia being driven moments before the accident, to contact them.
Arrowe Park Road was closed for a short time between its junctions with Barnston Road and Thingwall Road East before police officers re-opened one lane to allow rush hour traffic to continue.
Both lanes are now fully open.
Witnesses are asked to call Merseyside Police's collision investigation unit on 0151 777 5444.
