Arson thought to have been cause of Wirral shed fire
10:12am Thursday 12th September 2013 in News
ARSONISTS are believed to have started a shed fire in Birkenhead last night.
Crews from Birkenhead and Wallasey fire stations attended the incident in Connaught Way at around 7pm.
The brick shed was attached to an unoccupied house and full of rubbish at the time.
Watch Manager Ray Olsen, who attended the call-out with Green Watch at Wallasey fire station, said: "The bin shed had not been secured and smoke alarms had alerted neighbours who contacted the fire and rescue service. We contained the fire to the bin storage area.
"There was a build-up of refuse in the area and we had to dampen down all of the rubbish at the location to prevent further ignition."
A thermal imaging camera was also used by firefighters to check there was no fire spread to the secured unoccupied building.
