Tranmere Rovers submit plans for housing on club carpark
PLANS to build up to 50 houses on part of Tranmere Rovers' car park have been submitted to Wirral Council.
If approved, existing buildings will be demolished and the land redeveloped for the new homes.
The site in question is currently designated as car parking to the rear, which is partially occupied by single storey club buildings to the side of the Kop stand and a former van sales site, which is now vacant, which faces Borough Road.
In a letter supporting the application, the club's chief executive Mick Horton said: "The range of buildings affected by the proposal are single storey and generally in poor, or very poor condition.
"Current users include a hospitality suite, an indoor youth training centre and IT suite and class room.
"It is intended that these facilities will be either relocated at the club's proposed new training facility (Woodchurch Leisure Centre) or within the existing accommodation at Prenton Park.
"The car parking area in question has been surplus to requirements for some considerable time and the remaining car park spaces are adequate for matchday and non-matchday use.
"The former van sale site has been vacant for some years."
