FIREFIGHTERS were called to a blaze at football changing rooms in Wirral last night.
The incident happened at around 7.55pm in Arrowe Hill near Arrowe Park Road as the ground floor and roof of the building caught fire.
Three fire engines were sent to tackle the flames and half of the single storey building was well alight when crews arrived.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue say that by around 9.10pm the main body of the fire was extinguished and damping down operations were being carried out. The incident was being scaled down by 9.25pm.
The service’s control room received 14 calls about the fire.
An joint investigation with the police into the cause of the fire has now been launched.
Officers say the closures are likely to remain in place for several days after traffic lights on the same road were knocked down in an accident last week.
Traffic is reported to be coping well on surrounding routes.
