Police hunt owners after dog bites four-year-old boy on Wirral train
2:13pm Friday 30th August 2013 in News
British Transport Police officers are calling on the public to help after a four-year-old boy was bitten by a dog on a train near to Rock Ferry station.
The incident happened at 5.30pm on Tuesday, 20 August, as the boy travelled with his mum and siblings.
Constable Shaun Lee said: “The boy’s mum was told by the dog’s owners that it was friendly and okay to stroke.
“Having been given assurances she allowed the boy to stroke the dog and he then moved away.
“A short time later the dog became aggressive, growling and snarling, before lurching towards the boy and biting him.
“Thankfully the boy’s mum acted quickly and was able to pull him out of harm’s way, but he still suffered two cuts to his ear and a scratch to his upper body.”
Following the incident the dog’s owners, a man and woman, left the train at Rock Ferry station.
Cons Lee added: “We have conducted a number of enquiries to date and have managed to isolate some CCTV images of a man we would like to speak to about the incident.
“The dog was large, muscular and white and was controlled on a lead and harness."
The man was white, about 35, stocky and was wearing a blue jacket with distinctive yellow writing on the back. The woman was white, about 30, had blonde hair in a pony tail and was wearing a headband.
“I am certain someone will recognise the man in the CCTV images, or the descriptions of the dog and its owners and I am calling on them to come forward with any information which could help us trace these people," said Cons Lee.
“Thankfully the young boy wasn’t seriously injured but, had the dog made more firm contact, the injuries sustained could have been much worse.”
If recognise the man, or the descriptions, or have any information about the incident please call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111. In all calls please quote log B8/NWA of 30/08/13.
