Bolton Wanderers........1 (Tranmere win 4-2 after penalty shoot-out)
TWO penalty shoot-out saves from Owain Fon Williams earned Tranmere Rovers a place in the third round of the Capital One Cup.
Rovers defeated Championship side Wanderers 4-2 on spot kicks after the game finished 1-1 after extra time.
Cole Stockton's first-half strike put Rovers ahead only for Jermaine Beckford to level after half time.
The sides then couldn't be separated in an entertaining game at Prenton Park throughout extra time before Rovers netted all four of their penalties, and Fon Williams produced the saves to see his team through.
Manager Ronnie Moore said he is proud of his players: "We were fantastic from start to finish.
"The first tackle from Goody set the standard for everybody. We changed the shape because that's all we had but it worked well. Every one of them deserves a pat on the back.
"We got a bit lucky when they've gone offside and there was a tremendous clearance off the line from Evan as well.
"It's a fantastic result and it's the first time I've won on penalties as a manager.
"Cole was a man tonight. He and Jean-Louis worked ever so hard and it was an accomplished striker's finish. He's going to turn into a very good footballer.
"Give them credit, they came out and threw men forward and took chances. We didn't keep the ball as well and there were one or two tired legs.
"That's the standard we need. If you set that standard you'll win more games than you lose.
"Goody is legend. He's 40 and he was the best player on the park. He gave everything, he was fantastic."
Ronnie made five changes to his injury-hit side with Ian Goodison, Jason Koumas, James Rowe, Cole Stockton and Danny Holmes all starting in place of Stephen Foster, Abdulai Baggie, Andy Robinson, Ryan Lowe and the suspended Andrai Jones.
