Good news for Wirral commuters - Lime Street station reopens this week
9:36am Monday 19th August 2013 in News
LIVERPOOL Lime Street’s lower-level station is set to reopen this Thursday, August 22, following a four-month refurbishment.
During the closure, extensive work was carried out on the platform, the corridors and concourse.
Floors have been re-tiled and the walls have been re-cladded to create a brighter, fresher and more clean-looking environment for the benefit of customers.
Merseyrail’s chain of combined ticket offices and convenience stores has also been upgraded.
The work is part of a continuing £40m project to upgrade all five stations in Liverpool’s city centre.
Liverpool Central was overhauled last year and James Street early this year.
Hamilton Square and Moorfields will be refurbished sometime between next year and 2016, though dates have not yet been set.
Andy Heath, deputy managing director at Merseyrail, said: ‘We’re really pleased work on our third city centre station is now ready and I am convinced that the more attractive atmosphere will appeal to our customers, making their experience on Merseyrail a much better one than previously."
Wirral commuters using the Liverpool Loop faced disruption to their journeys between July 13 and August 11 while essential maintenance was carried out.
