A 10-YEAR-OLD Wirral boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a blaze in Birkenhead.

The incident happened on Saturday at around 4.50pm in Newport Close, Noctorum, when police and fire crews were called to the scene.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue say the fire involved a boiler vent and spread from the ground-floor wall to the roof.

Four fire engines from Upton, Birkenhead, Bromborough and West Kirby community fire stations were called out along with an aerial appliance from Wallasey Community Fire Station.

No-one was injured during the blaze but damage was caused to two properties.

Detectives are now working with fire investigators to establish the cause of the fire. The scene will be forensically examined and CCTV will be studied.

The young boy arrested has been bailed pending further enquiries.
