It is with great sadness that the Globe brings the heartbreaking news that little Amelia-Mae Davies has passed away.

Amelia-Mae, who needed life-saving treatment in America, sadly lost her battle with neuroblastoma.

The two-year-old was diagnosed with the rare cancer last September but it quickly spread meaning she was desperate for immunotherapy - which is not available in this country.

However with its huge price tag of £250,000, her parents Angie and Stewart were in a race against time to gather the funds.

The Globe backed the Amelia-Mae Appeal with regular updates on the toddler's fight and a special Facebook page was set up dedicated to organising fundraising events and promoting her plight.

And following huge support from the Wirral community and beyond, the fundraising total stood at more than £130,000.

But after months of fighting, courageous Amelia-Mae died at home last night surrounded by her family.

Her cousin, John Murray, who led the Run to Save Amelia-Mae Challenge - a 250-mile run from Brighton to Alder Hey - posted on Facebook this morning: "We are extremely saddened to inform everyone that our beautiful princess Amelia-Mae is now flying with the angels.

"Our family would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support throughout these difficult times. God bless you all xxx"

And in a message on the youngster's Just Giving fundraising website, the Neuroblastoma Children's Cancer Alliance (NCCA) said: "We are very saddened to inform everyone that Amelia-Mae has sadly lost her battle against neuroblastoma.

"The NCCA UK send heartfelt thoughts to her parents Angie and Stewart and big brother Carl.

“The NCCA UK will offer support for funeral costs for Amelia-Mae, as we have always with our parents in this awful situation.

"Angie and Stewart will decide whether Amelia-Mae’s funds will either go towards another child’s appeal or towards research. We will update when a decision is made.”
