A MAN has died following an accident on Wirral's motorway.
It is believed the victim had left his car for reasons unknown and was on foot when he was struck by a Heavy Goods Vehicle at around 11.30am.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and police officers are working to identify him and trace his next of kin.
Drivers are being advised that the northbound M53 at junction 4 at Bebington has been closed.
A Merseyside Police accident investigation is underway following the collision along the main carriageway between the northbound entry and exit slips.
An 'up and over' diversion is in place with drivers being taken off the motorway at the junction 4 exit slip road, onto the junction roundabout and then back onto the motorway using the northbound entry slip road.
The closure is likely to be in place for several hours and drivers are being advised to delay their journeys or seek an alternative route if they wish to avoid diversion queues.
Accident investigators are at the scene and officers urge anyone with information to contact them on 0151 777 5444.
More later.
