Met Office issues amber warning for Wirral: Heavy snow causes travel disruption and closes many schools

The Met Office has issued an amber warning for Wirral today, which means widespread snow with a number of road closures, others passable only with care.

BE PREPARED for some disruption to road, rail and air transport with difficult driving conditions likely and longer journey times.

This snow may cause disruption to some public services and possible school closures.

Wirral Council is recommending that parents should check their child's school website in the first instance.

Pensby High School's website has announced that the school will be closed today due to the snow.

Neston High School also will be closed.

St Mary's College, Wallasey, is closed today. A message on its website says if any students have already set off and arrive at college staff will ensure they get home safely.

Wirral Grammar School for Girls and Wirral Grammar School for Boys will not be opening today, along with Brackenwood Juniors.

The Horseshoe Pass in North Wales has been closed due to heavy snow.

The Avon Bus 84 service is unable to access Raby Mere Estate; the 77 is unable to get to Storeton Village and the 90 cannot get through to Mendip Road in Prenton.

Disruption on Virgin Trains between Holyhead and Crewe due to obstruction on the line between Flint and Shotton.

Delays of 60 minutes and cancellations can be expected.

There is no current estimate for when a normal service will resume. Also affecting Arriva Trains Wales.
