WIRRAL students put their cooking skills to test as they went head-to-head.

Year seven and eight pupils from University Academy Birkenhead took part in a ‘Get Set, Cook’ competition with help from leading chef Darren Tinkler.

Darren, from catering company Chartwells, dropped into the school to help the youngsters create fresh dishes such as a vegetarian balti with Bombay potatoes and meatballs in sweet and sour sauce.

Headteacher Geraint Parry said: “If we teach children to cook healthy meals for themselves we are helping them to be healthy adults.

“The children really enjoyed themselves and it was a great success.”

I really enjoyed doing the ready steady, cook. The school offers more activities like this.
