Wirral students off to Rio after entering business competition

Packed for Rio
A GROUP of enterprising Wirral students is off on a once-in-lifetime trip to Brazil after entering Chester University's 'RIOlise' business project.
Abbie Holsgrove, Catherine Jones and Dave Johnson, from Wirral Metropolitan College are jetting off to Rio for the Global Entrepreneurship Congress.
The trio, from the college's NVQ Front Office course, managed to raise almost £2,000 themselves. Then in true entrepreneurial spirit, they pitched to a group of businesses from Chester to secure funding for the remainder of the money, which helped them win the competition!
A Brazilian-themed Rio Gala charity fundraiser was held at Wirral Met College’s training restaurant, The Birches.
This served as a platform for guests to wish the lucky entrepreneurs, Abbie, Catherine and Dave, a successful chance-of-a-lifetime journey.
The students will be joining four of their Higher Education colleagues and will visit the British Consulate and Rio university, as well as delivering presentations at a fringe event at the congress itself.
The students will be making a video diary during the trip to share with fellow college students on their return, to inspire them for next year.
Di Fitch, curriculum leader for Enterprise Education said: "As tutors, Hannah Parkinson, June Macdonald and myself are all very proud of this achievement, which has meant dedication and hard work alongside their normal studies.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for them to develop their entrepreneurial skills further and we are looking forward to hearing all about their adventures when they return!"
