Queen thanks young Wirral girl for reminding her to wear her crown!
2:08pm Friday 15th March 2013 in News Exclusive By Stephanie Cureton
A LITTLE girl from Wirral caught the attention of the Queen after asking her to wear her crown when she addresses the nation.
Five-year-old Imogen Roberts sent a hand-written letter to Her Majesty after watching the annual Christmas Day message which left her baffled at the missing headwear.
In her note to Buckingham Palace, she wrote: “Dear Queen Elizabeth, please may you where (sic) your crown on Christmas Day. Love from Imogen Roberts, age 5 ½.”
Imogen’s mum, Steph, said she didn’t expect to get a reply so was shocked to find a letter from the Palace in the post.
The letter, which was written by a lady-in-waiting, explained that the Queen had seen the youngster’s note and drawing and was grateful to hear from her.
It read: “The Queen wishes me to thank you for your letter and hopes you will understand that, because of the overwhelming number of cards and letters received on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee, it has not been possible to reply to you until now.
“Her Majesty was pleased to hear from you and liked the colourful little drawing which you made for her to see. I enclose some information sheets which you may like to have, and thank you very much once again for writing as you did.”
And now Imogen, from Bebington, says she cannot wait to show off her letter from the Queen to her schoolfriends.
Steph said: “The Queen’s message was on the telly on Christmas Day and Imogen came in and asked why she was wasn’t wearing her crown or gloves. She was really confused by it and decided to write her letter.
“We sent it off but didn’t think we would get a response because the Palace must get thousands of letters. So when the envelope turned up with the Buckingham Palace mark on it, I couldn’t believe and Imogen was so excited.
“She’s hoping the Queen will take her advice and wear her crown next Christmas so we shall see!”
And Imogen, who attends St Andrew’s C of E Primary School, is determined to hold on to her special message from the Queen.
She said: “I was jumping up and down and screaming when my mummy showed me the letter.
"I’m going to keep it forever.”
