Cheaper exercise classes are to be offered to young people in Wirral in a bid to reverse obesity and overweight trends.

The Teen Invigor8 initiative, launched by Wirral Council, is aimed at 12 to 17 year olds to involve them in more physically physical pursuits.

There are approximately 74,500 under-18s in Wirral – more than 15.5% are classed as obese and 14.7% as overweight.

Membership includes Teen Fitness Suite sessions at a selection of sites, plus teen specific classes, such as Teen Boxercise, Teen Bootcamp.

For a cost of £13.30 per month members have access to over 200 fitness classes a week, as well as sessions at fitness suites across the borough. Teen Invigor8 members can also get 50% off any Invigor8 school holiday activity, and use of the athletics track at The Oval, Bebington.

Cllr Chris Meaden, cabinet member for culture, tourism and leisure said:“The Invigor8 scheme currently offers adults a huge variety of opportunities to get and stay fit and healthy and take part in activities they might never have tried before.

"Teen Invigor8 extends our offer to young people, and highlights some teen-only activities that they can try out in the company of others of a similar age.”
