Detectives are investigating following a robbery at a shop in Wallasey this evening.

Officers were called to Mount Pleasant Stores in Mount Pleasant Road shortly before 5.30pm.

A man entered the store and threatened the female shopkeeper with what has been described as a black handgun and demanded cash from the till.

He fled on foot with the cash down Wentworth Avenue towards Field Road.

He was white, around 5ft 5ins , wearing a black hooded top with the hood up and a scarf covering his face.

The victim was left extremely upset but uninjured.

She called police and a search of the area was carried out by patrols, officers from the dog section and the police helicopter.

House-to-house enquiries are also being carried out and CCTV is being viewed.

Part of Mount Pleasant Road between Kirkway and Sandrock Road was cordoned off, but has since reopened.

The incident remains ongoing.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area either immediately before or after the robbery to contact them at Birkenhead CID on 0151 777 2265 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
