New clinical group takes over health care for all Wirral New clinical group takes over health care for all Wirral

A NEW medical group responsible for Wirral health services has been given the green light to launch.

The Wirral Clinical Commissioning Group will be formally established and officially take over from the Primary Care Trust on April 1.

Authorisation from the National Commissioning Board follows a lengthy assessment process of a local pilot scheme including visits by outside advisors.

It means the group will now take the reins on commissioning health services throughout the borough.

Dr Abhi Mantgani, chief clinical officer at the Wirral group, said: “This is an exciting time for us and we are delighted to have been given the official go ahead to become formally established as a new commissioning organisation.

“We have been working hard over the last twelve months involving a wide range of partners, to commission and develop health services to improve health and reduce disease in our local population.

“We look forward to rising to the challenges we face, tackling the differences in health and life expectancy that people in Wirral experience, as a result of the area in which they live.

Dr Phil Jennings, chairman of Wirral CCG, said: “Our aim is to make a positive difference to people within Wirral.

“We will ensure that we listen to what patients and members of the public have to say and we will actively seek their views to help shape plans for improving health services locally.

“We will also work closely with our partners to improve the health and wellbeing of our local population.”

Unfortunately we can't be optimistic about the future direction. We want our GPs to be doctors, not business tycoons - just as we don't want accountants performing surgery on us. The new unnecessary NHS bureaucracy looks pretty much like one step in the Tory plan to privatise OUR health services. perhaps Doctors Mantagani and Jennings can tell us if Wirral is different to - or the same as - other CCGs: http://www.bbc.co.uk

Does anyone have a clue what all this means I feel totally in the dark about what is actually happening in the health service.

About what was the National Health Service explained.

One thing you can rest assured on, the massive new buildings on the site of the St Catherine's Hospital Birkenhead, will now begin to be lit up and be occupied in good style.

This is a massive space furnished and fitted out to a very high specification that will be filled mostly by people with nonsensical titles that once belonged to the PCT, another frightening aspect is there will be a certain amount of Wirral Council Officers and clerical staff drafted into what was once known as the National Health Service.

The estimated wage bill alone for this White Elephant Edifice will be more than the entire present spending on patient care in Arrowe Park Hospital.

All paid for from the unlimited generosity of the Tax Payers, including the monumental mortgage payments to the speculators under the Private Finance Initiative, not just for a few years but for the next thirty years at least, something for your children and grand children to pay for throughout their lives.

And the ultimate result a completely privatised and commercially owned National Health Service, great for people with money, absolute crap for those without.

Heard an interesting item on the Radio 4 Today programme during the week on a survey carried out by the BMA into CCG's.

It was revealed that a third of doctors setting up the CCG's had declared in the survey, that they held interests or shares in doctor 'on call' or other private medical services.

The BMA were calling for greater control of CCG's being set up with regard to the interests of doctors involved.

Food for thought?
