Wirral great-grandmother marks 100th birthday
A GREAT-grandmother celebrated her centenary this week.
Norah Derbyshire, from West Kirby, marked her 100th birthday on Wednesday, February 27 with a party and a card from the Queen.
The former care assistant, who was born in Birkenhead, now lives at Abbeyfield Lear House Care Home where she has been for 29 years.
Prior to her move to the care home, the great-grandmother-of-four enjoyed hobbies such as sewing and knitting and regularly helped to raise funds for Hoylake Cottage Hospital.
And her son Bill said she “thoroughly enjoys” living at Lear House.
He said: “My mother used to work at care homes and liked the Abbeyfield homes across Wirral and loved the idea of being there herself so she sold her house and moved in.
“She was always saying how much she enjoys it here and one us comes every day to see her.
“She was very keen to raise money for charity over the years and worked in the shop at the Hoylake Cottage Hospital.”
