Wirral in top ten for sports activities
Wirral is among the top 10 authorities in the countries when it comes to participation in sport and physical activities.
Sport England’s Active People Survey has confirmed that the number of Wirral people pursuing at least 30 minutes of sport each week has increased every year since the survey started in 2005.
From 32.6% of the population then, involvement by Wirral enthusiasts has increased to 41.8% in 2011/12.
This makes Wirral the highest performing authority in Merseyside and among the country’s top 10.
Leisure centres across the peninsula have seen a rise in usage with the number of members of the Invigor8 scheme increasing from 5355 in 2011 to 6336 in 2012.
Leisure centres are recording around 1.736m visits ever year – helped by increased marketing and promotion work by the council’s corporate marketing team as well as on-line booking facilities.
