A Wirral man accused of holding a building contractor captive at his Caldy home appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today.

Paul Winskill is alleged to have falsely imprisoned Michael Wainwright, 23, at his home in Croft Drive West, on February 16 this year.

The Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Clement Goldstone, QC, fixed a trial date beginning on August 5 and 49-year-old Winskill is to return to court on May 28 to enter his plea.

He was further bailed with conditions including residence at The Colonnades, Albert Dock, Liverpool, a £100,000 surety and surrender of his passport and not to apply for travel documents.

Winskill, a director of Liverpool road surfacing firm Premier Asphalt, was initially kept in custody as his wife, who is acting as surety, was not present at court and had to attend before he was released.
