Bangladeshi event planned in Wirral to mark independence

WIRRAL families are invited to a special event to mark Bangladesh’s independence.

Bangladeshi Family Day, which will take place on Saturday, March 9, will mark the month in which the country declared its independence in 1971.

Organised by Wirral Council and NHS Wirral, the event will feature face painting, games and crafts, Bangladeshi food tasting and traditional music.

Councillor Chris Meaden, cabinet member for culture, tourism and leisure, said: “This looks like a really fun day, with lots to do for children and a chance to taste some delicious Bangladeshi cooking.

“It is great to see a Wirral library hosting another educational and fun event.”

Entry is free and the event is open to all. For more information call 0151 606 2665 or email birkenheadlibrary@wirral.gov.uk.

Here's an idea. Don't go.

Stay at home, and write letters complaining about 'dem foreigners' taking all out jobs, and political correctness gone mad.

You shower of tedious bores.

Me too. And Indian day, and Arab day, Jew day, polish day and every other nationals day. 365 days of shame for Wirral councils stupidity.

Boredofthis2,
Are you sure your on the right thread?I have'nt read any comments about "dem foreigners"taking all our jobs, and yes political correctness only appears to support other cultures,I think the reaction to this is that people see their own culture and feelings sidelined eg; mus'nt fly the Union Flag or St Georges flag or celebrate any Christian festivals in case someone is offended, this is a mainly Christian country and those that seek a new life here are quite rightly allowed to practice their own religions and customs, but if they are offended or upset by our way of life then perhaps this is not the right country for them and they also have the freedom of choice to leave.

I used to have the same views as all above, but I now work with these families and have no problem with them, People are mislead by false info and comments. Were does it say that this event will be funded by our taxes. They could be funding this event themselves. I've not seen any Bangladesh families refuse to join in with our activities or complain about our culture.

Mustn't celebrate any Christian festivals.

You idiot. Did Christmas, Easter and a whole range of others just pass you by the last few centuries?

And this isn't a religious celebration. Bangladesh is a country, not a religion. Tithead.

The nonsense about the St George flag is also a complete Daily Mail myth.

Grow up.

Point 1: Christmas does not exist anymore, it is a mid winter festival. Also decorations for the MWF are none religious now or haven't you noticed?

Point 2: This is about a small far east country with no ties to England. What next Vietnam Independence day?

Point 3: we are not a 'mostly' christian country - we are A CHRISTIAN country full stop. I am athiest but do not go around demanding the closure of christian establishments.

This latest joke by WBC is just that a joke that is going to cost YOU, the taxpayer.

Oh, don't go blaming Cameron's lot, this is labour at its best!!!

Boredofthis2,
If you had taken the time to read my post correctly you might of recognised that they were examples given of why some people feel that our own culture is being sidelined rightly or wrongly, this isnt the fault of any immigrant community it is the fault of a number of weak willed councils wishing to appease a very small minority of certain communities.Again nowhere did I mention that Bangladesh was a religion or that this was a religious festival, perhaps if you concentrated on what was written it would save you having to reply with your misleading comments and your childish insults.

The best that you can say about the announcement of this event is that its something positive amidst a sea of negative news; and when the day comes, I too look forward to being able to wave my cross of Saint George in celebration of our foreign-born patron saint.

At least the article didn't contain that wretched and depressing phrase "we celebrate diversity", so maybe the yawn- inducingly unimaginative lexicon of the equality fiends is expanding at last.

Like the councillor says, "it's an educational and fun event" and it's great that our "community" library is being used for this, as it should be! I don't think it's a waste of money (it won't be a lot of money), it's an important day in world (and British) history - and there is actually a British connection as it all started with the end of the British Raj in 1947.

They have their own community around the borough road area, so why not let them celebrate. Who say's it's going to cost us? It may be funded by their own community. I don't see such a fuss when we join in with the Chinese new year across all our schools etc.

What a load of tosh. 2% increase in council rates, services cut etc, and they can find money for THIS?... Educational and fun day out, so why not have the Wirral Show, or the egg run? when is Australia day, the independance for India, Packistan, South Africa....? this harks back to the looney left days of Liverpool. I don't want MY money being spent on this? I would rather MY money being spent on the days centres that are being closed, jobs being cut in the council. We want speed humps in our road to stop the certainty of a child being run over, but there isn't any money. If you want this Councillor, YOU PAY FOR IT OUT YOUR OWN POCKET. I why are the Wirral Globe not making more of this? sure the nationals would have a field day?!

Thank you Leigh Marles for clarifying that point, however it was organised jointly by WBC and the NHS and I take that to mean their organisational contribution was also free of charge, quite unusual for WBC as they like to squeeze every last penny usually.

Jadee, you've dropped your bag of grammar there.

It celebrates the *end* of the war, yes? Not the body count?

Seriously, though, if this event is being held at no cost to the council and will increase community spirit in that area, what's the problem? Don't like it? Don't go.

As for the "You never see the Union Flag" brigade, look up at any council building, any day of the week. Salute, if you need to. You'll look no more ridiculous than your ranting, spittle-flecked comments on the Globe website already do.

**** pal, it is getting blooming ridiculous now, we cannot display our english flag in pride anymore without fear of racism.

Employers are basically forced into recruiting `foriegners` for fear of repraisals.

If they want to come to our country THEY SHOULD LIVE BY OUR WAYS, OUR RULES AND DO OUR WORK WITHOUT SPECIAL CLOTHES!
