A COLLECTION of scrap copper has been turned into cash for Wirral Cancer Charity's latest appeal.

The collection, organised by M&Y, the repairs and maintenance arm of North West housing group Regenda, raised £750.

The cash has now been donated to the very worthy cause of The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity in Wirral, which is raising funds to develop a new playroom where their younger patients can relax and take their mind off the treatment they are facing.

The team at St Helens-based M&Y collected scrap copper piping over the course of several months.

Gill Kelly, director of M&Y, said: "We were amazed when it weighed in with a value of £750 – it just goes to show what a difference a bit ofscrap can make! We sent  five members of staff over to Clatterbridge to hand over the donation, and they were thrilled to meet the team there and find out more about what they were trying to achieve.

"This is a fantastic cause, and we are delighted to support it – visiting Clatterbridge has really inspired everyone, and I am sure we will be looking at ways we can support them in the future as well."

Kim Smith, Clatterbridge Cancer Centre's corporate fundraising manager said: "It's always a pleasure to receive support from local businesses throughout the region and we are very grateful to M&Y for choosing to support us in this way.

"It goes to show that you don’t have to run marathons to raise hundreds to make a difference!

"Cancer affects the whole family and this donation towards our Playroom Appeal will help put a smile on the faces of hundreds of families across our region living with cancer."
