RESIDENTS have won their fight to block Asda plans to extend operations at a Wirral store.
Householders living near to the superstore giant's Liscard complex objected to the proposals claiming they were already affected by substantial noise from the Asda car park.
They also said they suffered noise and disturbance during the night from slamming doors, car stereo music and car alarms.
Asda wanted to increase Monday to Saturday trading hours by three hours – from 6am to 11pm. Existing opening hours are from 8am to 10pm.
Planners recommended approval for the application but Wirral planning committee vetoed the move after studying residents' objections.
Cllr Leah Fraser, who spoke for residents at the planning meeting, said: "Residents have suffered enough over the years with noise from the constant slamming of car doors, car lights shining through windows and general disturbance.
"Asda is unusual in that it is situated in a highly residential area, so they must be considerate to their neighbours and the impact their actions have on those living close by.
"I've been asked to meet with the manager of Asda to discuss the problems residents are experiencing. I am happy to meet him and will be asking residents to attend as well."
