WORKERS across four Wirral DVD rental stores are set to lose their jobs as Blockbuster becomes the latest casualty of the high street.

Administrators Deloitte have today announced that the store in Wallasey will be among the latest 164 branches in the country to close for good.

It follows the announcement that Blockbuster in Heswall, Moreton and Birkenhead will also face the axe.

Deloitte say there will be special closing down promotions in the run-up to the closures and that a dedicated employee helpline has been set up.

It is not yet know when the Wirral stores will shut but customers will be in advance so they can return any outstanding rentals.

Lee Manning, joint administrator, said: “We have continued to review the performance of individual stores since our appointment a month ago and have concluded that further closures are necessary in order to restructure the company for sale.

“We would like to thank the company’s employees for their support and professionalism during this difficult time and we are also grateful for the continued support of customers. We are in discussions with a number of parties interested in purchasing all or parts of the business and will update on progress in due course.”
