A YOUNG man was the victim of an unprovoked attack while on a night out in Liverpool.

The 22-year-old, from Liscard, was leaving The Cavern pub in Mathew Street shortly after midnight on December 14 2012 when he witnessed an assault on another man.

But as the first victim ran off, his attacker turned his attention to him and punched him in the side of his face.

He fell to the floor where he was punched and kicked while a woman also joined in before friends and doorstaff intervened.

The pair then left the scene in an unknown direction.

The second victim was helped up by friends and taken home, where he then called the police but the victim from the initial assault was not traced.

A hospital check-up revealed bumps and bruises to both sides of his head and an abrasion to his shoulder.

Detectives have since identified two people on CCTV from the area that night who they would like to trace and speak to.

Anyone with information can call Detective Constable Karl Bennett at St Anne Street CID on 0151 777 4065 or leave information anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
