A WIRRAL singer is set to tour the world performing alongside Spice Girl Mel C and radio DJ Chris Moyles.

Rory Taylor, from Heswall, has been signed up for the world tour of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' following his appearance on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ITV show 'Superstar' last year.

The 24-year-old came second in the search to find a new ‘Jesus’ but he has now been snapped up to play the role of ‘Simon’ and first cover for Jesus.

And Rory, who is also in local band 5,4,3,2,1 with his brothers, said he is looking forward to getting back on stage.

He said: "I was approached to appear in the first tour after the show but I decided against it as I had already made commitments with the band and some stuff I wanted to fulfil.

"But when I was asked this time, I thought ‘why not?’ and went for it. I’ve had a nice relaxing break and I feel like I’m ready to get back to work now and get stuck in.

"The band are really supportive because in our line of work, it’s about taking opportunities when you can and we will always work together."

The UK leg of the tour kicks off in October, with dates in Australia, Europe and America to be confirmed later.

And as well as rehearsing for the show, Rory is also preparing to star in the touring production of Rent.

He added: "The world tour means I'm going to be away for about two months at a time, but I'm used to being away for lengths of time and it makes me appreciate home a lot more when I am here.

"I can’t wait to meet up with Mel C [Mary Magdalene] and everyone else – they're a great bunch of people and I’m sure we’ll have a lot of fun."
