THE search for the North West’s best woodlands has begun.

The Royal Forestry Society Excellence in Forestry Awards 2013 seek to reward the very best in five forestry competition categories.

They are: Multipurpose woodlands, silviculture, small woodland, community woodlands.

For the first time, in conjunction with Forestry Commission England, there will also be an award for urban forestry.

The North West has some exceptional woodlands and forest chiefs are keen to see owners step forward to represent the region in an awards scheme which this year also covers parts of the West Midlands and all of Cumbria.

Owners, managers and woodland lovers have until March 4 to enter.

Full details can be found by following the link on the RFS web site www.rfs.org.uk

The awards will be presented at Wythenshawe Park in Manchester on July 3.
