Globe tribute to colleague who lost battle against cancer

A FORMER Production Manager with the Wirral Globe has died aged 55 after a battle with cancer.

Glenn Farrar, who lived in Grappenhall, had been due to marry fiancee Jaqui in June this year.

They had been together for 17 years.

He was at church hearing the banns being read on Sunday, January 20 when later that day he was taken ill and was rushed to Warrington Hospital suffering from pneumonia.

He died the next day.

His brother Garry said: “He wanted to live every day, he never wanted cancer to beat him.

"He was getting married and had everything to live for.

“Everyone who met Glenn loved him, and he loved life. He was an amazing story teller and a very funny man.”

Glenn began his career at the Globe’s sister paper, the Warrington Guardian, starting as a compositor in their old offices in Sankey Street.

His father Brian also worked for the company as did his grandfather Harold Pester.

Glenn was a pupil of Beamont High School where he passed seven A-levels.

He moved to Birkenhead to work for the Globe in 1996 before leaving newspapers a decade later and working with his brother Garry at World of Beds at Warrington, next to Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Globe editor Leigh Marles said: "I know I speak for everyone at the Wirral Globe when I say Glenn will always be remembered with immense fondness.

"He was a true gentleman who would go out of his way to offer help to anyone who needed it.

"He also had a superb sense of humour and a wicked wit that often had his colleagues in gales of laughter.

"Learning of his passing has been a great sadness for all of us."

His funeral will take place at St Wilfrid’s Church, Grappenhall, on Friday, at 10.30am, and afterwards at Walton Crematorium.
