National honour for Wirral children’s librarian

A WIRRAL Children's Librarian has seen her work with young people recognised by a national libraries organisation.

Sue Roe, Wirral Council’s children’s services librarian, has been awarded a Certificate of Honorary Life Membership by the Youth Libraries group of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP).

CILIP describes itself as 'the leading professional body for librarians, information specialists and knowledge managers'.

Sue received the honour at a ceremony at Bolingbroke Academy in London. The award recognises 'her major contribution to library services for children and young people'.

Sue said: "I am delighted to be presented with Honorary Life Membership of the CILIP Youth Libraries Group, an organisation that works so hard to advocate quality provision of library services and reader development opportunities for children and young people and to promote excellence in children and young people’s literature."

Councillor Chris Meaden, cabinet member for culture, tourism and leisure, said: "We have been banging the drum about how wonderful Sue is for many years, and I’m glad to be able to say that she fully deserves the recognition that CILIP has chosen to bestow on her.

"Sue has worked tirelessly with children and young people in our libraries, helping to inspire a love of reading and stories in them and organising many events, including bringing famous writers like Julia Donaldson to Wirral."
