BRITISH Transport Police are searching for a 'Good Samaritan' who stepped in to help a member of rail staff who was being assaulted at Wallasey Village rail station.

The man came to the aid of the member of staff who had challenged the behaviour of three youths at the station and subsequently been attacked by the youngsters during the incident, which happened at around 6.35pm on Saturday, December 22.

The member of rail staff, a 53-year-old man, asked three youths to leave the waiting room as their behaviour – which included drinking from a vodka bottle and swearing – was upsetting customers.

British Transport Police officer Steve Davies said: "The man followed the youths out of the waiting room, but they became more aggressive, verbally abusing and spitting at him.

"As they left the station the youths became violent and began kicking the member of staff. They only stopped doing so when a passer-by intervened and caused the group to run off.

"There is no doubt that this 'Good Samaritan' stopped the member of staff from being seriously injured but, despite extensive enquiries, we have been unable to trace him.

"It is vital that we trace him and I urge anyone with information about the incident, or who knows the man, to get in touch."
