Voters head to polls for Wirral by-election
WIRRAL residents are heading to the polls today as two by-elections take place.
Candidates hoping to secure a seat in the town hall will be standing in Leasowe and Moreton East ward and Heswall.
The elections will be held following the deaths of Cllr Anne McArdle and Cllr Peter Johnson.
Among those hoping to win the most votes in Leasowe and Moreton East is local comedienne and actress Pauline Daniels who will represent Labour.
The 57-year-old hopes her "straight-talking" manner will help her to work on issues in the area.
Also hoping to win support from voters will be former ward councillor Ian Lewis, representing Conservatives, who believes his previous experience in the ward will come in handy.
Other candidates include Liberal Democrat Daniel Clein, Trade Unionists and Socialists Against Cuts party candidate Mark Halligan, Jim McGinley from the Green Party and UKIP candidate Susan Whitham.
Heswall candidates include former mayoress Kathryn Hodson for Conservatives, Barbara Burton for the Green Party, Mike Holliday for Labour, Greg North for Trade Unionists and Socialists Against Cuts and David Scott for UKIP.
