TWO men have been released on bail pending further enquiries following a shooting incident in Birkenhead.

Police were called to Westbourne Road, off Grange Road West, on Thursday following reports from a member of the public of suspicious activity.

Officers found damage to the front door of a property "consistent with a firearm discharge." Two shots appeared to havebeen fired through the door.

Following an investigation a 29-year-old man from Birkenhead was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and a 19-year-old man from Prenton was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.

Police say high-visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area to reassure the local community.
