Armed robbers raid two Wirral stores holding staff at gunpoint

ARMED robbers targeted two Wirral stores holding staff at gun point on Monday night.

Two men demanded cash from a worker at the Best One store in Seaview Road, Wallasey, at around 8.10pm while the second incident happened 20 minutes later at the MRM Convenience Store, King Street, Birkenhead.

Although no-one was injured during the raids, in which cash and a mobile phone were stolen, staff are said to have been left “shaken.”

Police have now stepped up patrols in the areas to reassure residents and CCTV is being sought.

Detective Inspector Judith Blease, said: "Firstly, I would like to reassure the communities of Birkenhead and Wallasey that incidents of this type in these areas are rare.

"Merseyside Police takes incidents of this nature very seriously and we are committed to catching the offenders.

"I would urge anyone with information about these incidents, particularly those who may have seen two males matching these descriptions, acting suspiciously in these areas around these times to contact us."

The first raider was white, slim, around 5ft 8ins, wearing a black hooded Adidas-type jacket with black tracksuit bottoms, dark boots and black gloves.

 

The second was also white, 5ft 8ins, with a “large waist.” He was wearing a black jacket with epaulettes, dark tracksuit bottoms and black and white trainers.

Police say both had their faces covered and believe the robberies were linked.
