Wirral 'baby boom' leads to jobs boost
WIRRAL'S 'baby boom' has secured more jobs for the borough's midwives.
'One to One' midwives is set to take five new midwives as experts predict the birth rate to keep increasing nationally.
Among those signing up for the NHS-commissioned company is mother-of-two Leanne Rendell who joined in November 2012.
She said: "My work is really enjoyable and rewarding. I always look forward to going to work to support my clients.
"I gain a tremendous amount of satisfaction from getting to know the mums-to-be and helping them before, during and after the birth."
Each full-time midwife at ‘One to One’ looks after a maximum of 40 mums-to-be which compares to a caseload of more than 100 in other schemes across the country.
Joanne Parkington, clinical director for 'One to One' midwives, said it was important to provide midwives with a variety of work settings.
She said: "We are delighted to start the new year by recruiting more midwives. This demonstrates that women in Wirral are seeking more choice and want to know the midwife who is going to provide their maternity care.
"The birth rate is rising nationally so it is imperative that midwives are given the opportunity to work in different settings and in ways that provide them with more flexibility in their work life balance if we are to promote midwifery as a real career option and increase the number of midwives across the UK."
