A ROCK Ferry man who bit off part of another man's ear outside a supermarket in broad daylight has been jailed for 20 months today.

Russell Worgan and his victim, Ian McKay, started grappling after Worgan saw him by chance loading his boot outside the Lidl store in Rock Ferry.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that Worgan was angry because he believed there had been an incident between his girlfriend and Mr McKay while he had been in jail.

During the struggle the victim felt a stinging pain in his ear and realised Worgan had sunk his teeth in his left ear.

He had to put his thumb in Worgan's eye to get him off and then discovered part of the edge of his ear was missing.

Supermarket security staff alerted the police and officers arrived and after speaking to the victim went to Worgan's home in Well Lane and arrested him.

He said that they had been friends but had fallen out over an incident involving his girlfriend, said Andrew Sinker, prosecuting.

Worgan, 36, pleaded guilty to wounding.

Sarah Ferguson, defending, said that Worgan regretted his actions and had pleaded guilty. He has previous convictions but only one for violence and that was an affray offence.
