A GROUP of Wirral residents are fighting plans for a new late-night bar to open in Liscard.

The borough’s licensing committee are set to consider an application for The White Lounge to re-open under new management this year.

The bar in Wallasey Road surrendered its licence last August after reports of gas theft and police had to step in.

But now new owner Thomas Sadler is hoping to re-launch the establishment as a traditional British bar and restaurant.

He wants to offer home-cooked food and a family-friendly environment.

However the Central Liscard Area Residents Association (CLARA) are protesting against the plans in a bid to stop a licence being granted.

According to licensing documents, 33 people have signed a petition due to concerns relating to the “cumulative impact of licensed premises in the Liscard area.”

But Mr Sadler, who has been in the pub industry for more than 20 years, said his business venture would bring a different kind of nightlife to the town.

He said: “I understand that the residents are worried about the area attracting more revellers but there is already a strong customer base in Liscard so we are not necessarily adding to that.

“We want to create more of a family atmosphere and offer home-cooked food – we’re hoping to improve Liscard.”

Wirral licensing committee will meet next Wednesday to decide on the matter.
