A WIRRAL primary school has received another accolade for its work with children with autism and moderatelearning difficulties.

Hayfield Primary School in Upton recently received the results of its latest inspection by OFSTED and was rated 'Outstanding' in every category - achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management.

In its summary, the OFSTED inspectors were glowing in their praise for the school saying:-

"This wonderful school has continued to grow and improve since the previous inspection. Senior leaders and managers and all of the staff share the highest expectations for pupils.

"Pupils make exceptional progress from low starting points in all areas of their learning. Their progress in reading, writing and mathematics is outstanding. Rates of progress in literacy and communication are even more pronounced than in mathematics.

"The quality of teaching is at least consistently good and a great deal of it is outstanding. Teachers plan exceptionally well for the individual needs of their pupils.

"Pupils feel safe in this happy school. Any difficulties with behaviour are managed kindly but firmly.

"Staff aim to help pupils become able to express their needs and wishes. As a result, pupils learn to cope better in stressful situations.

"Parents are partners in their child's learning and the school involves whole families as much as possible in activities and events."

The inspectors visited in November and published their report last week; a brilliant way to end a fantastic year for the school that also saw them retain accreditation from the National Autistic Society for the seventh year, regain the Artsmark Gold Award and achieve the International Schools Award for partnership work with a school in Ghana.

Headteacher Sheena Drake said: "We are extremely proud of all our pupils and staff for all that they have achieved in 2012, but particularly around the OFSTED inspection.

"They are never easy experiences, but to be rated as outstanding in every aspect of our work is a fabulous achievement."

Cllr Tony Smith, Wirral Council cabinet member for children's services and lifelong learning added: "All the staff, pupils and parents connected with Hayfield Primary School should rightly be very proud of this glowing report from OFSTED, the inspectors could simply not have spoken more highly about how the school is managed and the positive impact going there has on pupils."
