FIREFIGHTERS extinguished a blaze involving three garages in Birkenhead earlier this morning.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called to Dryden Close in Birkenhead at 12.22am.

On arrival, firefighters found one car on fire inside one of the garages and extinguished the flames before using a winch to pull the vehicle out to carry out damping down operations in the garage.

The fire involving the brick garage and car was extinguished by 1.57am.

The car and the garage it was in were severely damaged by fire. Two adjacent garages were severely damaged by smoke. Another car in an adjacent garage was also damaged by smoke.

Crews from Upton and Wallasey fire stations attended the call-out.

The Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service control room received six calls about the fire. It is believed the fire was started deliberately.
