AFTER an absence of ten years, bus stops are to be reintroduced outside Hamilton Square railway station.

Hamilton Street is being widened so buses will be able to pull-up directly outside the station.

Working with Wirral Council, Merseytravel has funded the changes with money from a successful bid to the government's Better Bus Fund.

Merseytravel chairman Cllr Liam Robinson said the Hamilton Street works are due for completion early next year.

Buses travelling towards Woodside were removed from Hamilton Street more than ten years ago when road alterations, as part of the Hamilton Quarter project, meant that they were relocated to a stop at the rear of the station.

Historic Hamilton Square station was built by the Mersey Railway and opened in 1886. Iis now designated a Grade II listed building.
