TRANMERE Rovers will face Championship side Derby County in the FA Cup third round following their victory over Chesterfield at Prenton Park.

The match will not only be the first ever FA Cup meeting between the two clubs, but also the first in any cup competition.

The 14 league games played between Rovers and the Rams have seen Tranmere win seven and lose six. The last six games have produced 31 goals between them.

Looking back to Saturday's win, boss Ronnie Moore said he was pleased with his squad's progress through the FA Cup campaign, but admitted it wasn't their best performance of the season.

He said: "It was scrappy in the first half but we rolled up our sleeves in the second and had a go.

"I said to them at half time to stop messing around at the back and going square.

"We had a bit of pace up front with Michael (O’Hallaran) he ran the channels well and he just needs a goal.

"He did fantastically well for the goal for Adam McGurk. Michael is going to be a threat but we've got to play balls in early to him.

"It was a workmanlike Cup tie and we just about edged it. We were hanging on when we shouldn't have been."

Moore says he won't know the extent of a knee injury sustained by captain James Wallace during the Chesterfield clash until the swelling goes down.

Wallace had to be substituted due to the injury just ten minutes in.

Said Ronnie: "It's a bad injury for us. It's too early to say what it is but he certainly won't be playing for the next two or three weeks.

"He over ran the ball and got the block tackle in and he knew straight away. It's a dampener on a good result for us."

Rovers are still top of the table with 39 points by virtue of goal difference. They resume their League One campaign at Prenton Park against Portsmouth this Saturday, December 8, at 3pm.

Tranmere will be away to Derby on the weekend of January 5.
