Wirral mum needs your help for Duchenne charity

A WIRRAL mum fighting to cure her little boy's illness is calling on the community to back her latest fundraiser.

Kelly Magee, from Prenton, has so far raised £15,000 for Duchenne Now after her three-year-old son William was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

She wanted to raise awareness of the muscle disease and raise cash for a possible cure.

And following the success of a family fun day in August, Kelly is now busy planning her next event, a charity auction night.

The event, which takes place at Leasowe Castle on December 6, will aim to boost the 32-year-old’s total to almost £20,000.

And mother-of-two Kelly is hoping Globe readers will show their support.

She said: "The fun day was a massive success and we knew we wanted to do something else before the end of the year.

"The auction night will have a Roy Chubby Brown tribute act and lots of fabulous prizes so it should be a good night."

Among the prizes are signed CDs by Jessie J, Little Mix, Michael Buble as well as a signed cook book from Gino D’Campo and Pandora jewellery.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a progressive, aggressive muscle wasting condition which is most common in boys.

Symptoms usually begin in the legs and pelvis before the disease slowly takes away all use of the body's muscle, leading to eventual death.

Among Kelly’s efforts to raise awareness of the tot’s condition was a special video montage telling viewers about Duchenne’s, for which Coldplay gave their approval to use their hit ‘Fix You’ and a petition to the Government to fund research.

Kelly added: "Local people have really got behind us and I think that is largely down to William – he is so bubbly and full of life that when people learn about his condition and what his future holds, it breaks their heart.

"I think we are getting closer to making a big difference to Duchenne research and we will keep fundraising and raising awareness – we can’t give up."
