Wirral prepares to pay its respects to borough's to war dead
The Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Gerry Ellis, will join service men and women with their families and representatives of the armed forces at the Cenotaph in Hamilton Square on November 11 to mark Remembrance Sunday.
Mayor Ellis said it was important that families of all ages came together to remember the war dead.
He said: “On Remembrance Sunday, people of all ages will gather at war memorials across the borough to honour those who have given their lives for their country.
"Brave men and women continue to be involved with conflicts, which we hope will bring greater freedom and eventually lead to a more peaceful world.
“We will not only pay tribute to the service men and women who lost their lives, but will also remember the pain and loss suffered by their families and friends.
“I am proud to lead the people of Wirral in remembering everyone who has made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. They have not been forgotten and we will always honour, respect and appreciate their courage.”
The Hamilton Square ceremony will take place next to a new memorial commemorating service men and women who have been awarded the Victoria or George Cross, 1,100 local people killed in action during the Second World War and those who have fallen in other conflicts since 1945.

Are you for real ? WBC have given its permission to concrete over the biggest war memorial in Wirral and you have said nothing, instead you bestow on us empty platitudes.
Well I for 1 will be marking my remembrance at the Ingleborough playing fields, before it disappears below an avalanche of greed. good day to you sir!

Is Mayor Ellis aware of what is happening at Ingleborough or is he simply choosing to ignore that the council has given permission to build on a war memorial?
