Rovers need return to winning ways, says Moore

TRANMERE Rovers boss Ronnie Moore believes his side rapidly needs to return to winning ways after they drew 1-1 with Preston North End.

The draw means Tranmere still top the division by the slender margin of two points.

Rovers take a break from League One this weekend travelling to Essex to face Braintree Town on Sunday in a live ITV broadcast in the first-round of the FA Cup.

Ronnie said: "We weren't that good at home on Saturday. In fact, we were probably as bad as we have been all season.

"I thought we started brightly, to be fair, but they sort of bullied us. They were bigger and stronger and in the end we started playing too many long balls.

"It was men against boys at times, but give our lads some credit. They dug in there, they couldn’t get on the ball, but they stuck at it and got the break.

"All season we've been trying to pass it and play, and Preston were the team we really needed to do that against.

"But we salvaged a point. We’ve got to our position (at the top of the league) through hard work. It’s hard to keep up that momentum through 30-odd games, so we were always going to have ups and downs.

"We've had our downs - we now need to get back to winning ways."

Assessing Cup opponents Braintree Town, Moore said: "It was around three weeks ago they went to Luton and won.

"They went to Hereford and they drew 0-0, so we’re not playing any mugs.

"This is going to be one hell of a cup-tie."

Moore hopes to have the injured Andy Robinson available for selection.

He said: "Robbo's going to train with the physio today, so he won't be involved with the first team.

"We are hoping he will be available for selection."
